JUIT Consolidated its Position in PARAKRAM-2014 Sports Meet

The picturesque campus of JUIT was abuzz & roaring with enthusiasm with cheering crowds and avid spectators making Parakram-2014 a memorable festival. The university organized its second annual open sports festival, during 21st-23rd November. The fest kicked off with a grand opening ceremony in the auditorium. The campus was soon loaded with young budding talented players from all around the Northern region. JUIT played host to a total of 261 participants from the following 17 esteemed institutes: PIET, Panipat; DAV, Chandigarh; MMEC, Mullana; LPU, Phagwara; NIT, Kurukshetra; JIIT, Noida; LR, Solan; GHEC, Kumarhatti, Solan; Shoolini University, Solan; Chitkara University, Punjab, GBU, Noda; HPU, Shimla; JNGEC, Sundernagar; Bahra University, Waknaghat; Baddi University,Baddi; UIIT, Shimla and APG University, Shimla.


The fest included sports and gaming activities. Starting with the most loved sport of the nation, Cricket, the previous ‘Defending Champions’ JUIT once again emerged as winners. They displayed a splendid performance and the accompanying commentary was especially enjoyed by one & all. Moving on to one of the most exhaustive sports, basketball, in an event of undying enthusiasm, the JUIT girls outshone every other team as the undisputed champions by defeating Baddi University in the final. However, the JUIT boys despite of putting up a great fight lost a nail biting battle to the impeccable former champion DAV, Chandigarh who had few national level players in the team. The Nehwals and Padukones of JUIT stood tall in badminton, both the girls and boys team grabbing the gold. Volleyball was an exciting affair, with Sunny’s and ROC as a backdrop; it was a total crowd puller with Shoolini University taking the cup home. Playing the graceful and sharp game of Table Tennis, Abhay Lakhanpal from the HPU, not only won the TT gold, but emerged as the Player of the Tournament. As if that wasn’t enough, Lakhanpal lead both the mixed doubles, along with Laavanya from JUIT and men’s double with Prateek from Baddi University, to a remarkable victory. The game of the mind, chess, was won by Vaibhav Sharma from JUIT. Now coming to the unusual and the exciting event, LAN gaming, caught the attention of all spectators; Team LEME comprising of 4 members, 2 from UIIT, and 2 from JUIT swayed to number one in Counter Strike 1.6, Arpit Aggarwal from JUIT in FIFA, and Mukul Sharma from JUIT in BLUR.


Like all good things, Parakram’14 came to an exuberant end with the closing ceremony. It began with Prof. SK Kak, Vice Chancellor of JUIT addressing the diverse audience. In his speech he emphasized the importance of sports for current technocrats where the work environment demands team work & collective efforts. He along with Prof. TS Lamba, the Dean of Academic and Research, JUIT, felicitated the players with the medals and the prizes.
All in all, a hectic, but a truly enjoyable affair, Parakram 2014 had a blast of events, with fun, frolic, food and true sportsmanship. JUIT’s commendable efforts under the guidance of the ever hardworking JUIT students, staff & faculty, Parakram came out to be grand success lighting up the environment, paying off every drop of sweat shed in the misty cool weather! The credit also goes to the JYC who did a great cooperating and supportive role in the formation of the events.
