SUMMER TRAINING PROGRAM, 1 JUNE – 14 JULY 2020
Department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, Jaypee University of Information Technology (JUIT), Waknaghat, Himachal Pradesh, India is offering project based summer training for the duration of 4/6 weeks in June-July 2020 in different areas of Biotechnology & Bioinformatics applicable to students doing M. About the Department:
The Department of Biotechnology & Bioinformatics has gained National and International distinction in Biotechnology education and research through its UG and PG programs. The Biotechnology and Bioinformatics program of the University has thrice been ranked at No. 1, by Biospectrum, among private institutions of the country. On March 11, 2013 the Association of Biotech Lead Enterprises (ABLE) has honored JUIT as one of the best private biotech educational institutions in the country for doing outstanding research and education due to its strong R&D program, up-to-date educational curricula, modern laboratory infrastructure, and highly qualified Faculty. The Department offers B.Tech, M.Tech, M.Sc and Ph.D courses in Biotechnology and Bioinformatics.
SUMMER TRAINING APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
- Fee for the training program is to be submitted by Online Mode (RTGS/NEFT) ONLY. No other mode of payment will be accepted.
- Fill the Online Application form for the summer training program with Personal Details, Photograph, and Details of Payment Made (UTR No. etc). (Please DO NOT SEND ANY HARD COPIES).

- Confirmation of your candidature along with Module allotted would be mailed within Ten days of receipt of online form, after confirmation of fee from the Accounts.
- Module for the summer training would be allotted on First Come First Serve (FCFS) Basis, with each module having maximum 25 Seats.
- A module with less than Five (5) seats would be cancelled and students would be allotted their second preference for the summer training.
Documents to be submitted (to be carried with you and submitted on your arrival at JUIT) at the time of Registration:
- Training letter issued from Dean/HoD/Training Coordinator of your Institute/Department.
- Your latest CV/Resume.
- Three passport size photographs (For Identity Card, laundry card, registration form etc.)

Training Fee for Kits, Media, Reagents, chemicals and other consumable to be used during summer training program.
JUIT hostel facility is available to the students with a fixed rate,
- Rs. 10,200 for 4 weeks
- Rs. 15,300 for 6 weeks
- Hostel Fee includes Lodging, Meals (includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, fruits, milk) Internet and Laundry Facilities, sports facilities, transport facilities etc
FEE PAYMENT OPTION:
- For 4 weeks summer training program; Rs 9,500 only
- For 6 weeks summer training program; Rs 11,500 only
- For 4 weeks summer training program with hostel facilities; Rs 19,700 only
- For 6 weeks summer training program with hostel facilities; Rs 26,800 only

Project based summer training may includes two or more modules as listed below MODULE DESCRIPTION:
Following are the training modules floated for the upcoming Summer Training Program – 2020:
Microbial Biotechnology & Bio-energy: General Microbiology Techniques – handling, isolation, preservation and staining. Screening and isolation of computer munching microbes. Bioreactor design, fabrication and working.
Molecular Biology Techniques: Plasmid isolation, Genomic DNA Isolation, DNA and RNA gel electrophoresis. Restriction analysis, Cloning and PCR amplification of a given gene, sequencing and genome annotation.
Microbial Pathogens & Medical Genomics: Handling of BSL1 & 2 organism, Mutation, Immunodiagnostic techniques – Double Diffusion, Rocket Immunoelectrophoresis etc, ELISA, Agglutination and PCR based (DNA) Diagnostic Techniques, Identification of SNP through RFLP, DNA fingerprinting for forensics, cDNA sysnthesis, Quantitative real-time PCR.
Industrial Plant Tissue Culture: Establishment of callus/cell suspension cultures/somatic embryogenesis/artificial seeds; Different micropropagation techniques & technologies for different plant species; In vitro production and quantification of medicinally important secondary metabolites
Bioinformatics: Bioinformatics: Fundamental concepts of bioinformatics, Information retrieval from biological databases, biological sequence analysis through computational methods, sequence alignments (pairwise, multiple, global, and local), phylogenetic analysis, Structure prediction and validation, Docking, Introduction to functional and computational Genomics, Perl/Python, HTML, MySQL and Computational Systems Biology.
Industrial Biotechnology & Food Biotechnology: Food fruit juice fermentation, Food analysis and quality control (Sugar content, pH, phenolic content, anti-oxidant content, ethanol content), Downstream processing. Monod’s Growth kinetic parameters, Immobilization of whole yeast cells.
Enzyme Technology: Folin-Lowry’s and Bradford Method for protein concentration estimation, Michaelis Menten kinetic parameters (Vmax, KM, Ks, Kcat), Ammonium sulphate precipitation, Enzyme Dialysis, SDS-PAGE, Enzyme Immobilization.
Nanobiotechnology: Introduction, Nanomaterial synthesis: Synthesis of silver, zinc and copper nanoparticles, Nanomaterial characterization using various analytical technique such as UV-vis spectroscopy, Functionalization of nanoparticles using various biocompatible ligand, Nanomaterial-ligand interaction, Applications: antimicrobial activity and MIC calculation.
Proteomic Technologies: Protein extraction from different biological samples, quantitative estimation of protein, spectroscopic analysis of proteins, in-gel and in-solution protein digestion, protein profiling methods using One dimensional gel electrophoresis, comparative proteome analysis using two dimensional gel electrophoresis and quantification software.
PLACES OF TOURIST ATTRACTION
The University is situated in the neighborhood of Shimla, 3 KM off the NH22 (Ambala-Kalka-Waknaghat-Shimla road). It is just half an hour drive to Shimla from campus. The nearby places of tourist attractions are Shimla (24 Km), Chail (45 Km), Kufri (45 Km), Kasauli (50 Km) and many more.
