Brief Life Sketch of Brigadier RK Sharma, SM (Retd.)
Brigadier RK Sharma, Sena Medal (Retd.) was commissioned in the Corps of Engineers of the Indian Army in 1988. Distinguished alumnus of Sainik School Kapurthala, Punjab, he did his BE(Hons) degree in Civil Engineering from Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology Patiala, M Tech (Transportation Systems) from IIT Kanpur, MSc (Defence and Strategic Studies) from Madras University and Staff College from DSSC Wellington. In his illustrious career spanning over 36 years, he has held many prestigious academic appointments including Commander of Faculty of Civil Engineering at College of Military Engineering Pune, Directing Staff at the Army War College Mhow in Senior & Junior Command Wings and Instructor at Bombay Engineering Group & Centre Pune. The Officer has the unique & singular honour of raising and commanding a new outfit of the Indian Army - the Vijay Ashish Engineer Regiment (Bombay Sappers). He has served in Srilanka during operation PAWAN and in Bhutan under Project Dantak of the Border Roads Organisation. He also held the prestigious appointments of Chief Engineer of Project Beacon (BRO) in J&K, Chief Engineer of an Army Corps and Additional Chief Engineer at Command Headquarters.
An adventurist & an athlete, Brigadier RK Sharma has done Para jumps, Para sailing, Hang gliding, Microlight flying and has been a long distance runner.
Brigadier RK Sharma is a recipient of Sena Medal (Gallantry) and Army Commander Commendation for his professional achievements. He is also a recipient of the Technical Silver Medal (first in the order of Merit) from IMA Dehradun.
