Biotechnology
Biotechnology represents abroad specter of scientific fields encompassing basic biological sciences and its application towards human and animal health care, agricultural, industrial and environmental protection. The core competence of Biotech department exists in plant/animal genomics, proteomics, plant/cell tissue culture, nutraceutical food and beverages, handling of labile fermentation based compounds efficiently in downstream processing methods, use of cell/microbial culture techniques, stem cells, competence in recombinant DNA technology of plants and animals; pathogen biology, including development of diagnostics, drugs, etc.; molecular marker assisted breeding of plants and animals; and infrastructure in fabricating bio-reactors and processing equipment.
The Department is equipped with various labs providing hands on training in various areas of biotechnology such as medical biotechnology, industrial biotechnology, environmental biotechnology, food biotechnology, agricultural biotechnology, plant biotechnology, pharmaceutical biotechnology, genomic & proteomic technologies, animal and plant cell culture technologies, high throughput biology, etc.
Also department has a doctoral research program wherein currently 32 scholars are registered with faculty members.

Bioinformatics
Bioinformatics is an interdisciplinary field which has evolved in a major form around the last decade or so and has bought a major revolution in various aspects of Life Sciences. The field entails the creation and development of databases, data management and mining, computational and statistical techniques application, algorithm design, analysis of data generated, etc. to solve formal and practical problems arising from the experiments being conducted in wet labs. Understanding the importance of the branch, Jaypee University of Information Technology initiated a B.Tech programme in Bioinformatics from July 2002. Currently department is also running M.Tech programme in Computational Biology.
Our Bioinformatics curriculum have been designed with an engineering base encompassing courses from Life Sciences, Computer Science & Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics and Professional Development so as to enable students to work not only in the Bioinformatics and Biotech industries but also in other industries like IT Consulting, CROs, Pharmaceuticals, etc. Some of the core courses being taught are algorithm design, C, C++/Java, bio-computing, computational high throughput screening and computer aided drug designing techniques, database and data warehouse development, data mining, machine learning, scripting languages, etc.
There are 2 well equipped Bioinformatics labs for students to have a hands-on experiences for analysis of biological data and development of tools/databases. Department is also having a dedicated server room comprising of individual hosting servers and clustered servers for high-end computing.
The Department also runs a doctoral research program wherein currently 8 scholars are registered with faculty members.
