Humanities and Social Sciences

The Department of Humanities & Social Sciences was established in 2002 with the objective to produce well-rounded engineers, not only having good technological skills but also with the ability to interact with different organs of an organization. These skills include group and co-operative working, conflict management, communication, economics, finance and project management. Additionally, the Department exposes students to entrepreneurship skills, HR management, Customer relationship management, total quality management and learnings about cultural diversity. Apart from developing soft skills, the focus also is on inculcating good humane values amongst future technocrats, developming critical thinking and active learning. Department activities include teaching, research, organizing national and international Conferences & Workshops and Extension Activities. The Department contributes to mainstream programs. It offers core (I-VI Semesters) and elective (VII-VIII Semesters) courses for all B.Tech students and it is mandatory for all students to take one course in each semester. The Department offers doctoral program in Management, Social Sciences and Languages

The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences strives to nurture young minds to become well-rounded engineers, responsible global citizens and leaders. The Department acts as change-facilitator by imparting professional and behavioural competencies to complement the existing and emerging educational programs of the University. The department helps students and professionals to become the Innovative, Competitive and Enterprising leaders in their chosen fields.

Mission

To create responsible global citizens, who are able to express and assess opinions, take independent decisions and value the power of imagination and continuous learning. The department creates and disseminates knowledge pertaining to skill oriented courses in fields of Communication, Management and Social Sciences. The Department fosters ‘soft’ skills, in students through the courses Presentation and Communication Skills and Group and Co-operative Processes; equips them with managerial skill through courses like Economics, Finance, and Project Management and sensitizes them towards the social, cultural and ethical issues through Social and Legal issues and Intercultural Communication courses. Additionally, the Department aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry through course on Entrepreneurship, Human Resource Management, Customer Relationship Management, Total quality management, etc.
